Analyse teen angst title sequence - Clueless

Clueless opening sequence

0:26 Seconds: The title of the film 'Clueless' is displayed on the screen, with a bright and colourful background. The word clueless is in a cartoon font, and this followed by a catchy theme tune that tunes in time with the title.

0:28 Seconds: This is a birds eye view of four teenage girls in a white convertible car, which then goes into a fast past tracking shot. This is gives the audience  feel of how fast the car is traveling.

0:31 Seconds: This shot is a panning shot, meaning the camera moves with the girl, she is captured walking across a high street with lots of shopping bags. The one shopping bag that stands out is the blue one which signifies 'Tiffany & Co' implying she is wealthy.

0:34 Seconds:  This is a scene in a school, where by lots of teenagers are being captured walking In a slow past motion.

0:36 Seconds: A teenager girl sat around the pool, as a pool party is being shot through a tracking shot. As this scene cross cuts in to the  next, the voice of the main character begins.

0:39 Seconds: An over the shoulder shot, captures the main girl getting ready in her mirror. This shows her personality and how her vanity shines through.

0:48 Seconds: A close up of a computer screen, alone with the voice over tells me that this character is very wealthy as she uses a computer to pick her outfits out.

0:54 Seconds: This mid shot shows the characters facial expressions, and connotes to the audience that she is very cautious about what she looks like as she did agrees with what her computer has told her what to wear.

0:58 Seconds: The 'perfect' outfit comes up and the song 'oh fashion' starts to play.

1:04 Seconds: The final shot is mid shot of the main character showing off very smug facial expressions.

Preliminary Task

Preliminary Task

Explanation

In order to make my preliminary task I followed a story board, which told me what to film. The illustration on the story board is what I captured on the camera, however I had to include three camera rues; match on action, 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot. In order to do this the first shot I filmed a long shot of someone walking towards a door, I then cut this into a close up of a hand clenching onto the door handle. The third step of this process was to use another long shot of the person walking through the door they have just opened, this shot then smoothly went into the person walking through the door but from the other side of the room. This shot showed match on action, the illusion that the person actually did walk through the door with out the cut happening. The fourth step of the preliminary task was to film two people having a conversation facing one another. This shot included the 180 degree rule, where by the camera wasn't allowed to film past 180 degrees. And then the final step of this task we had to film a shot conversation between the two people but make sure we filmed it with shot reverse shot.

What I have learnt and improvements for next time

In this task I have learnt what shot reverse shot means and how to capture this camera shot. When editing this short film I came across a new programme called Premier Pro, I learnt new editing skills
such as; cutting, merging and how to add in a fade to black edit to the end of our film to make it look more Sharpe.
If I was to re do this task in the future I would be more accurate when filming two people having a conversation using shot reverse shot. In order to do this I would zoom in more on the person who is talking rather then the getting lots of background in, like I did on the task. I feel as though this will allow a clean finish to the shot and will allow anyone who is watching to identify a clear shot reverse shot.
